Social Responsibility

Social responsibility is a duty we hold ourselves accountable to at Volo.  For over a decade, Kris has volunteered and participated on boards for organizations dedicated to economic empowerment and gender equality as long-term, sustainable development will only be possible when women and men enjoy equal opportunity to rise to their potential.

One of which, that she holds near & dear, is Nibakure’s Children’s Village in Rwanda. As a former board member, she helped develop the entire education curriculum, focusing on leadership, entrepreneurial and emotional development (integrated with standard education requirements).

There is more to Global South communities than violence and repression (as often viewed on the news); investing in children (in addition to women) helps speed up the development of local economies.

When impoverished girls grow up to be economically empowered women, they raise healthier, better educated families (boys and girls). Their countries are more economically prosperous because of it, too.

Volo also works with ecotourism organizations that connect travelers to the developing world and contribute to the conservation of the environment and improve the well-being of local people, their sense of community and way of life.

Each year we help foundations, non-profit’s and for-profit organizations address issues such as brand development, sustainability and strategies to engage, educate and inspire people to make travel decisions that make a difference. We help change-makers define their vision, create a road map and develop long-term hospitality strategies through consulting and pro-bono opportunities.

Our work always respects local communities and cultures, and has a strong focus on Women entrepreneurs. We are passionate about empowering women and accelerating gender equality as it’s the most effective ways to target overall development and household education, nutrition and community violence.
